I took the Hydrogen & Methane Breath Test and the doctor prescribed Xifaxan, an antibiotic that fights bacterial infection only in the intestines. I took it for 2 weeks (three 550mg tablets a day) and the results were better than Pure Encapsulations MicroDefense (maybe 10% better). I felt great while taking it. However, it was only a 2 week course which wasn't long enough -- the symptoms came back shortly after. The downside of Xifaxan is (1) it requires a prescription, and (2) it's very pricey so you need good health insurance to cover it. 

I'd like to try Xifaxan again but take it for a longer period of time.
